Independent Medical Examinations by Experienced Occupational Physicians
When an objective, independent medical opinion is required, Persona Health provides comprehensive Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) for employers, insurers, solicitors, government agencies and workplace rehabilitation providers throughout Sydney.
Our experienced Independent Medical Examiner delivers clear, balanced and evidence-based medical opinions that assist all parties in making informed decisions regarding injury management, fitness for work and ongoing treatment.
Whether you require a single assessment or ongoing medico-legal support, Persona Health provides professional, timely reporting with the highest standards of clinical independence.
An Independent Medical Examination (IME) is a comprehensive assessment performed by a medical practitioner who has not previously been involved in the patient's treatment.
Unlike a treating doctor, the Independent Medical Examiner does not provide treatment or ongoing care. Instead, they conduct an objective assessment of the worker's medical condition, review the available medical documentation and provide an impartial medical opinion.
The resulting report assists insurers, employers, legal representatives and other stakeholders in understanding the worker's diagnosis, prognosis, treatment requirements and capacity for employment.
Independent Medical Examinations are commonly requested when there are questions regarding:
• Diagnosis or causation of an injury or illness
• Capacity for work
• Fitness to return to work
• Ongoing treatment requirements
• Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI)
• Permanent impairment considerations
• Whether further specialist treatment is appropriate
• Disputed or complex Workers Compensation claims
• Medico-legal matters
Our reports are written in plain English while maintaining the clinical detail required for legal and insurance purposes.
We regularly perform Independent Medical Examinations for:
• Workers Compensation insurers
• Self-insured employers
• Employers
• Solicitors
• Government departments
• Workplace rehabilitation providers
• Claims managers
• Legal professionals
Each examination is conducted independently, without bias towards any party involved in the claim.
This is a question we are frequently asked.
Although both involve independent medical assessments, an Injury Management Consultant (IMC) and an Independent Medical Examination (IME) serve very different purposes.
